Translating and Notarising Legal Affidavits in Singapore

An affidavit is a written promise that what you say is true. When that promise is in one language but the reader uses another, you need a notary public translation of your affidavit. We make the words clear, and a notary backs the translation.

We handle court affidavits, statutory declarations and sworn statements made in other countries. We translate them into English, or from English into the language a foreign office needs.

A trained legal translator keeps every numbered paragraph and every oath line in place. Then a Notary Public registered with the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) signs and seals a notarial certificate for the translation.

Most jobs are ready in 2 to 3 working days, and 24-hour express is there for court dates that come fast. You get a soft copy by email and a hard copy by courier or pickup at Suntec Tower One. The quote is free.

From Courtrooms to Consulates: Where Notarised Affidavit Translations Go

A sworn paper is only useful if the reader can trust every word. These are the places that most often ask us for an affidavit translation sealed by a notary.

Most requested

Singapore court cases

Courts here usually want an English version of any exhibit in another language. Tell us the exhibit marks so ours match your lawyer's bundle.

Good to know

  • Exhibit marks kept
  • Lawyer's format first
  • Court date in mind

Property or bank matters abroad

A single status declaration made here may be needed for a home title in Vietnam. Since September 2026, Vietnam accepts the SAL apostille, so an embassy stamp is usually no longer needed.

Good to know

Inheritance and estate claims

Heirs often swear who they are and how they are related. Overseas offices may then want the paper in their own language with an apostille.

Good to know

One-and-the-same-person declarations

If your name is spelled two ways on two papers, a sworn statement can link them. ICA and other offices often ask for one.

Good to know

Support letters for visas

A sponsor may swear they will pay for a visitor's stay. Visa offices abroad may want it in their language.

Good to know

  • Sponsor's ID
  • Proof of income
  • Visa office rules

Sworn papers made overseas

An affidavit signed in China, Indonesia or Spain may be needed in Singapore. We translate it into English with the foreign stamps described.

Good to know

Sending your sworn paper to a country that is not part of the Apostille Convention? We can also arrange embassy legalisation for countries outside the Apostille system after the notary step.

Sworn Statement Types We Translate for a Singapore Notary

Every country has its own kind of sworn paper. Some carry stamp duty marks. Some are written by a notary. These are the sworn statements we translate for a notary most often. Workers sometimes swear a statement about a lost passport for MOM work pass paperwork, too.

Singapore

Statutory Declaration

A solemn written statement made before a Commissioner for Oaths or notary.

Singapore

Affidavit for court

Numbered paragraphs, a jurat and exhibits; we keep the layout your lawyer uses.

Malaysia

Akuan Berkanun

The Malay statutory declaration; we keep the commissioner's stamp text.

Indonesia

Surat Pernyataan bermeterai

A signed statement over a duty stamp; we note where the stamp sits.

China

Notarial declaration (公证书)

Made at a Chinese notary office; we translate the notary's own wording too.

Japan

Senseikyojutsusho (sworn statement)

A sworn statement often signed before a Japanese notary; we keep the seal notes.

France

Attestation sur l'honneur

A statement on your honour; we keep its legal warning lines.

Spain and Latin America

Declaración jurada

A sworn declaration; we keep the oath formula and notary details.

Germany

Eidesstattliche Versicherung

A statement in place of an oath; we match its strict legal terms.

Line by line

Oath Lines, Jurats and Exhibits in Notary-Backed Affidavit Translation

In a sworn paper, small words carry big weight. If a line moves or a mark goes missing, the paper may not be used. Our legal affidavit translation with a notarial certificate keeps these parts exactly as they are.

Name and ID of the person swearing

We copy the full name and ID number exactly as written.

Numbered paragraphs

Paragraph 7 stays paragraph 7, so lawyers can point to it easily.

The jurat or oath block

The part that says where, when and before whom it was sworn is fully translated.

Exhibit marks

Labels like Exhibit A or Tab 3 stay the same in both versions.

Dates and places

We write dates in a clear way and keep the town or city names.

Seals and signatures

We note each seal, stamp and signature so the reader knows they are there.

What gets a sworn translation refused

  • Paragraph numbers changed, merged or split
  • Exhibit labels missing or renamed
  • The oath block left in the old language

What we do on every affidavit

  • Keep the same layout and numbering
  • Translate stamps, seals and margin notes
  • Ask your lawyer's format before we start
  • Fix our translation free if the reader asks

Singapore court rules say that if the person signing cannot read English, the affidavit must be explained to them by someone able to do so. Your lawyer will confirm the exact format the court wants.

What Happens Once You Send Affidavits for Notary Translation

The work runs in four clear steps. If the paper is going to a Hague Convention country, we can add an apostille after the notary seal at the end.

Hire Notarized Translator
  1. Step 1: Send the Sworn Paper

Upload a clear copy of the affidavit or declaration, with all exhibits. Tell us who will read it, such as a court, a bank or an embassy. Let us know the language you need and any date you must meet. If your lawyer has a set format, please share it with us right at the start.

  2. Step 2: Agree on the Scope

We check the pages and tell you how long it will take and what the set will include. We also say if an apostille or embassy step may be needed. When you are happy, pay by Visa, Mastercard, PayNow or PayLah. You do not pay anything until you agree, and the quote itself is free.

  3. Step 3: Translate, Check and Seal

A legal translator writes the new version and keeps every paragraph number in place. A second linguist checks names, dates and exhibit marks. The translator then signs a statement, and a SAL-registered Notary Public adds a notarial certificate with a seal. If a line is hard to read, we ask you first instead of guessing.

  4. Step 4: Get It Back on Time

We email you a soft copy first, so your lawyer can check it right away. The signed hard copy follows by courier anywhere in Singapore, or you can collect it at Suntec Tower One. Most sets are done in 2 to 3 working days. For an urgent court date, ask for our 24-hour express option.

Notarised Affidavits Into and Out of English in Singapore

We work in over 200 languages. Many clients need a foreign affidavit turned into English. Others need an English paper turned into Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia or Arabic. Our notarised translation of a statutory declaration works well in both directions.

Common requests include Chinese notarial declarations, Malay Akuan Berkanun, Spanish declaraciones juradas and Japanese sworn statements. Many people also send name-link declarations made for statutory declarations used in ICA applications. We keep the legal tone of each language.

Answers on Translating a Sworn Declaration for a Notary

Yes. We often translate English declarations into Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and other languages. The notary then seals our translation. If the Japanese office also wants an apostille, that can be added after the notary step. Send us the declaration and tell us which office in Japan will read it, so we can plan the right steps.
Usually not anymore. Vietnam joined the Apostille Convention, and it came into force on 11 September 2026. So a declaration made here normally goes through a notary and then SAL, and the SAL apostille is often enough. The office in Vietnam may still want the paper in Vietnamese. Offices there are still getting used to the change, so please check with them first.
Not quite. A Commissioner for Oaths can take your oath on papers used inside Singapore, such as many court affidavits. A Notary Public is often needed when the paper will be used abroad. For translations, the notary signs a notarial certificate for the translator's statement. If you are unsure which one your reader wants, ask them or ask us.
It depends on who will read it and what your lawyer says. In Singapore courts, affidavits are usually in English. If you cannot read English well, the court rules say it must be explained to you by a capable person first. For overseas use, some offices want the paper signed in their language. We translate either version.
We cannot re-notarise a paper sworn in another country. What we can do is translate it into English, and our notary seals that translation. The foreign seals and signatures stay as they are, and we describe them in the English version. If the Singapore office wants proof that the foreign paper is real, that often comes from the issuing country.
Yes. Exhibits such as chat screenshots, letters, emails and receipts can be translated with the affidavit. We keep the same exhibit marks and page order, so they fit your bundle. For chat messages, we show who sent each line and when. Emojis and pictures are described in brackets so nothing is lost or misread.
Some lawyers ask for this, mostly for court cases. The translator confirms on oath that the translation is true. It is a different step from our usual notarial certificate, so please tell us early. We will check if we can arrange it for your language and date. Your lawyer will usually prepare the wording for it.
Think about who needs a copy. You may need one for the court, one for the other side and one for your own file. Your lawyer will know the exact number. Ordering all the sets at the same time is quicker than coming back later. The soft copy we email can also help your lawyer start work early.
We translate sworn papers, but we do not write their content or give legal advice. The facts and the wording must come from you or your lawyer. Once the paper is ready, we translate it and the notary seals the translation. If you need help writing it, please speak to a Singapore lawyer first, then send it to us.
First, find out exactly what the foreign office wants. Many want the declaration notarised, translated and then sent for SAL authentication on the translated declaration. Some also want a death certificate and proof of family links. Send us their checklist, and we will tell you which papers we can translate and the order of each step.
