Notary-Sealed Marriage Certificate Translation for Couples

Did you marry in another country and now need your marriage paper in English? Our marriage certificate translation with a notary seal gives offices in Singapore a clear English version they can read. A skilled translator works on your certificate. Then a Notary Public registered with the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) signs it.

Your marriage certificate links two people. It shows both your names, the day you married and where it happened. Offices use it when one spouse applies for a pass, for PR or to marry again. That is why we treat both names with the same care.

We handle marriage papers in over 200 languages, from Chinese red booklets to Indonesian Buku Nikah. A normal job takes 2 to 3 working days. Our express service can finish it in 24 hours.

We email you a soft copy to check. The hard copy comes by courier anywhere in Singapore, or you can pick it up at Suntec Tower One. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard, PayNow or PayLah, and your quote is free.

Spouse Passes, PR and More: Notarised Marriage Certificate Uses

Your marriage certificate opens many doors in Singapore, and each office has its own reason to see it. Below are the places that most often ask for a notarised translation of your marriage certificate, with one tip for each.

Most requested

MOM Dependant's Pass for a Spouse

MOM needs proof that you are legally married before it gives your spouse a pass. For papers not in English, MOM asks you to upload the original and the English translation together as one file.

Before you upload

ICA PR for a Spouse

When the spouse of a Singaporean or PR applies for PR, ICA looks at the marriage paper. Tip: send the full certificate, not only the page with your photo.

Before you upload

Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)

Foreign spouses often apply for an LTVP through ICA. Tip: many couples order the birth and marriage translations together, so names are spelled the same on both.

Before you upload

  • Applied through ICA
  • Order with birth records

Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM)

ROMM asks for foreign papers that are not in English or Malay to be translated into English. Tip: ROMM also wants originals or true copies, so keep your originals ready.

Before you go

  • Malay papers accepted as they are
  • Bring originals

Registry of Marriages (ROM)

If you were married before, ROM may ask about your last marriage and how it ended. Papers in some languages need an English translation. Tip: read the ROM checklist for your own case.

Before you go

  • Check the ROM checklist
  • Old divorce papers too

Using a Singapore Marriage Abroad

Moving overseas with your spouse? The other country may want your Singapore marriage certificate in its own language, with an apostille. Tip: ask that office which language it wants first.

From Buku Nikah to Red Booklets: Marriage Records Notarised

Marriage records come in many shapes. Some are small books. Some are one line in a family register. ICA often asks for papers like these when a spouse applies, as our page on translation and notarisation for ICA explains. Here are types we often prepare as a notary public translation of a marriage record.

China

Red Marriage Booklet (结婚证)

Each spouse holds one; we translate the steel seal over the photo and the certificate number.

Taiwan

Household Registration Transcript

The marriage shows as an entry in the family record, so we translate the full page for context.

Japan

Marriage Notification Acceptance Certificate

Japanese marriages are filed at the city office; we keep the office name and filing date exact.

South Korea

Marriage Relation Certificate (혼인관계증명서)

This record lists past and present marriages, so we translate every entry on it.

Indonesia

Buku Nikah

A small book from the KUA office for Muslim couples; the husband and wife each get one.

Vietnam

Giấy Chứng Nhận Kết Hôn

We keep Vietnamese names with their accents and match them to both passports.

Thailand

Kor Ror 3 Marriage Certificate

Thai dates use the Buddhist year, so we add the matching normal year in brackets.

India

State Marriage Certificate

Often in Hindi, Tamil or another state language; we translate every part not in English.

Germany

Eheurkunde

German marriage records may show name changes; we translate every name line with care.

Two names, one record

What Singapore Offices Check in a Notarised Marriage Translation

Offices read a marriage paper to see who married whom, when and where. Getting those facts right is the main job of a Singapore notarised translation agency like ours. In each notarised marriage record translation, these parts get extra checks.

Husband's and Wife's Full Names

Both names are spelled the way each person's passport spells them.

Date of Marriage

We write the date in clear day, month and year order, so it cannot be misread.

Place and Registry Office

The town, district and office names stay in the same order as the original.

Status Before Marriage

Words like single, divorced or widowed are translated exactly, since offices read them closely.

Witnesses and Officiant

Every name and signature line is shown, even when it is hard to read.

Certificate Number and Seals

The number is copied exactly, and each seal is described in brackets.

Mistakes that can hold up a spouse application

  • Leaving out pages of a booklet, like the seal page or the cover
  • Skipping the line that shows a spouse was divorced or widowed before
  • Spelling a spouse's name one way here and another way in their other papers

How we keep it right

  • Spell both names as on both passports
  • Translate the old status line, such as single or divorced
  • Describe the seal over the couple's photo
  • Keep the same spelling across your birth and marriage sets

MOM says you may use a translation service for papers not in English. ICA lists a notarised translation as one accepted way. Rules can change, so please check the latest checklist on mom.gov.sg or ica.gov.sg.

Your Marriage Paper's Path to a Notary Seal, Explained

Each marriage certificate notarisation follows the same four steps. If an overseas office also wants SAL's stamp, read about translations notarised before SAL authentication.

Hire Notarized Translator
  1. Step 1: Upload Every Page

Scan or photograph every page of your marriage paper. For a booklet, include the cover, the photo page and any stamp pages. Add both passport copies if you can. In the message box, write who will read it, like MOM, ICA or ROM. This helps us pick the right format and spell both names correctly from day one.

  2. Step 2: Free Quote in Your Inbox

We read your file and send a free quote with a clear delivery date. If the booklet has pages that look blank, or a seal we cannot read, we ask about it now. Once you agree, you pay online with Visa, Mastercard, PayNow or PayLah. Your translator then starts work on your marriage paper without delay.

  3. Step 3: Translate, Check, Notarise

Your translator writes the English version and keeps the layout close to the original. A checker then compares both spouses' names, the dates and the certificate number with the source. We then share the name spellings with you, so you can confirm them. After that, a SAL-registered Notary Public signs the notarial certificate and seals the full set.

  4. Step 4: Delivered to You

You get a soft copy by email, ready to look over. The sealed hard copy is couriered to your home or office in Singapore, or you can collect it at Suntec Tower One. Most marriage papers are done in 2 to 3 working days. If an office asks us to change the translation, we do it for free.

Marriage Certificate Notary Translation From Common and Rare Languages

Many couples in Singapore come from two different countries. So we often get marriage papers in Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Thai, Tagalog, Burmese, Japanese and Korean. Each marriage paper translated and notarised by us goes to a translator who reads that language well.

Some papers mix two languages, like a Thai certificate with an English stamp. We translate all of it. If your marriage paper is headed for an overseas office, our team can also prepare notarised translations for MFA use.

The Notary Bundle You Collect for Your Marriage Translation

Your notarized marriage certificate translation comes as one bundle with the notary's seal on it. You can hand it in just as it is.

If the bundle is for use outside Singapore, the other country may want one more stamp. Ask us about an apostille on your notarised marriage papers.

Full English Version

Every word, stamp and seal from your marriage paper, in English.

Signed Notary Page

The notarial certificate, signed and sealed by a SAL-registered Notary Public.

Copy of Your Certificate

A copy of the original joined to the translation, so it can be compared.

Same Names Across Your Family Set

Couples' Doubts on Marriage Notarisation in Singapore, Cleared Up

Usually one is enough, since both booklets show the same details. But look closely. If the photo, seal or number is different in each one, send both. Some offices also want to see both booklets at the counter. We translate the one you send, and we can make a second notarised set for the other booklet if you need it.
Not if it is explained. We translate the name exactly as it appears on the certificate. If your spouse now uses a different surname, we can add a short translator's note. You may also need to show the paper that changed the name. Ask the office which proof it wants before you hand in your forms.
Translate the one your marriage actually has. Muslim couples usually get a Buku Nikah from the KUA office. Other couples usually get a Kutipan Akta Perkawinan from the civil registry. Some couples have both. If you have both, check your checklist, or send us photos and we will tell you which one is normally used.
MOM's page asks for an English translation uploaded with the original, and says you may use a translation service. It does not say the translation must be notarised. But many employers and agents still prefer a notarised marriage certificate translation, since it adds a notary's check. Ask your employer or agent what they want before you order.
For a Muslim marriage in Singapore, ROMM asks that foreign papers not in English or Malay be translated into English. It also asks for originals or true copies of foreign papers. So bring your originals along with our translation. We can also translate related papers, such as an earlier marriage or divorce record, for this step.
Usually not. Singapore does not normally re-register a marriage that took place overseas. Your overseas certificate, with an English translation if it is in another language, is used as proof. Some offices may ask for more papers. If you are unsure, check with the office or on ask.gov.sg before you plan anything.
No. For a translation, the notary works with our translator, not with you. Neither spouse needs to come in or sign. You only need to send the marriage paper and tell us who will read it. If you also need a statement that you sign yourselves, that is a different notary service, so tell us early.
Yes. Japan and Korea are both in the Apostille Convention. We translate Singapore marriage certificates from English into many languages for use abroad, and the notary signs them here. Some countries also want an apostille, and some want embassy stamps. For countries outside the Apostille Convention, ask about our legalisation for overseas embassies.
Often yes. When a certificate shows that someone was divorced or widowed before, some offices ask how the last marriage ended. That proof could be a divorce paper or a death certificate. Check your checklist. We can translate these papers together, so all the names and dates line up across your set.
Count how many offices will keep a hard copy. A spouse pass, a PR application and a child's papers may each need one. Ordering all the sets at once is faster than coming back later, and every set carries the same notary seal. If you are unsure, two sets is a common choice for couples.
